About the Role

As a Senior Quality Engineer you'll own and grow the quality of Tellent HR alongside our existing QE team. You'll drive our test automation strategy, expand end-to-end coverage in Playwright, and raise the bar for backend testing. This is a hands-on collaborative role with genuine ownership, direct impact on product development and the experience of our customers.

Your 12-Month Journey

• During your first 3 months: You'll get to know Tellent HR, our engineering practices, and our quality standards. You'll learn our testing framework and development workflow while gradually contributing to automated and exploratory testing.

• Within 6 months: You'll take ownership of quality for parts of the product, expand our Playwright test coverage and work closely with engineers to build quality into every stage of development.

• After 1 year: You'll be a trusted quality partner within the team, driving improvements to our testing strategy, raising the bar for automation, and helping shape how we approach quality as Tellent HR continues to grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Work closely with our other QE’s to help bring our test automation strategy to life across Tellent HR, taking joint ownership and maintaining a significant part of it as it grows.

• Partner with developers and fellow QE’s to embed quality early, sharing domain knowledge in both directions and shaping testing practices collaboratively.

• Design and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts to ensure software accuracy and functionality

• Develop into a product domain expert using that understanding to test, spot risks earlier and guide quality decisions across Tellent HR

What You Bring

• Strong QA experience: Several years of hands-on quality engineering, with senior-level ownership of testing for complex web applications.

• E2E automation: Experience building and maintaining end-to-end test suites in Playwright

• API & backend testing skills: Proficiency testing GraphQL APIs and backend services

• Balance of product and technical thinking: Equally at home discussing product behaviour and digging into technical detail.

• Communication: Fluent English and Polish for daily collaboration.

We’re hiring Tech Leads to support our Core and Payments teams.

Our Core team is responsible for the engine driving the company’s key goals such as adding more relevant insurance products with great prices on our website and delivering relevant insurance documents to our customers with ease.

The Payments Team is responsible for understanding, evaluating, and improving our checkout experience which includes customer data confirmation, e-sign, financing, payment collection and invoicing integrations backed by third-party solutions

As a Tech Lead, you will bring deep technical expertise to help steer the Engineering team's technical direction, reinforcing our culture of iterative, autonomous development and deployment. Your primary focus will be on addressing security and scalability considerations, collaborating closely with the Product Manager, Team Lead, Engineers, and Staff Developers to design and implement systems and processes that enable your team to deliver effectively.

As a senior member of the team, you can articulate your thinking clearly, discuss complex ideas with ease, and manage your time well to meet important deadlines while also mentoring other team members as needed.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will design and implement solutions for both the front-end application and the back-end APIs.

This is a remote-first role within Canada. #LI-Remote

• Collaborate with project stakeholders and the development team to design, build, and implement scalable, user-friendly apps and libraries using Node, React, and Typescript.
• Collaborate with Product Management to examine, adjust, and break down roadmap items into epics and break down epics into discreet, actionable, appropriately sized tickets in the team’s backlog.
• Provide a technical perspective on organizational objectives within the team’s scope of activities. Analyze requirements, identify areas of concern, and provide recommendations based on your extensive technical background.
• Using POC models provided by Staff Developers, design and implement systems and infrastructure in accordance with the team’s vision and culture.
• Adhere to the organization’s security strategy using a security-first mindset.
• Discuss various strategies and architecture and highlight tradeoffs for potential solutions.
• Perform code reviews, ensuring that pull requests accurately reflect the acceptance criteria of the tickets they address.
• Use quality metrics to identify gaps in the testing strategy. 
• Work with teams to recommend solutions that are in accordance with accepted testing frameworks.
• Manage and optimize the integration of third-party systems into our infrastructure while ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of these systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify integration needs, implement solutions, and monitor system performance to guarantee uninterrupted service delivery.
• Define and prioritize areas of technical debt and bugs, taking into consideration outcomes of the incident management process and addressing them with the team.
• Foster a culture of iterative deployability with awareness of cycle time and failure rates.
• Coach and mentor the development team and work to expand their technical knowledge and skills.
• Use a systematic approach to debugging to diagnose issues within the application.
• Write unit tests as well as higher-level tests to ensure application quality and stability.
• Consistently produce production-ready code that is easily testable, easily understandable, and accounts for edge cases and errors, using comments and other documentation strategies where appropriate.
• Follow Agile practices, suggest improvements, and participate in team events.
• Develop a strong understanding of the company’s goals and initiatives and help the engineering team deliver on those goals/initiatives.
• Ensure technical standards such as accessibility, performance, security, maintainability, functional correctness, operability and observability are observed in the modules developed and maintained by the team.
• Document decisions, research and guides to foster and build a culture of continuous learning and continuous improvement.

• University degree or college diploma in a recognized technical, vocational or academic program or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of experience building rich, complex and scalable APIs, including integration with third party APIs.
• 5+ years of building front-end web applications using modern Javascript frameworks.
• 2+ experience in designing scalable and distributed systems.
• Experience mentoring other developers.
• Extensive full-stack experience working with React/Redux/Node/Typescript/PostgreSQL and Javascript.
• Extensive experience with the Scrum framework and Agile methodologies.
• Familiarity with DORA metrics to measure the DevOps Performance and experience in communicating what’s been measured with the team. 
• Experience architecting and augmenting large software systems.
• Experience with Javascript development toolings like WebPack, Babel, and Storybook.
• Experience with Unit Testing frameworks like Jest/Mocha.
• Experience building and/or working with micro-services and micro front-ends.

• Experience working with test automation frameworks like Cypress, Nightwatch, Selenium, and BrowserStack.
• Experience working with Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, Pulumi and AWS.
• Experience with containerization tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.

Role Overview

• Design and Implement Testing Strategy: Act as the quality owner and define the comprehensive testing strategy for the entire microservice ecosystem. This includes designing and implementing automation frameworks from scratch.

• Develop Robust Test Automation: Utilize expertise in Playwright, API, and UI testing to build, improve, and maintain reliable, robust test coverage for microservices, APIs, gateways, and asynchronous systems.

• Ensure AI-Generated Code Quality: Design and implement test coverage to validate AI-generated functionality and ensure the quality and stability of the code produced by AI agents.

• Drive Quality Culture and Standards: Challenge developers and proactively improve the team's overall quality culture and testing standards.

• CI/CD Pipeline Support: Collaborate with and support developers in building, improving, and maintaining the CI/CD pipelines , leveraging GitHub Actions for automation.

• Cloud Deployment Validation: Apply knowledge of AWS environments (Fargate, EKS) to validate cloud deployments.

• Handle Ambiguity: Comfortably work with minimal requirements and translate them into effective automation frameworks and test plans.

• Performance and Advanced Testing: Utilize performance testing experience (a plus) to ensure system scalability and reliability

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Playwright, automated API & UI testing
